Commerzbank expands German football backing to women’s team

German banking and financial services company Commerzbank has extended and expanded its partnership with the German Football Association (DFB).

Under the new agreement, which will run until the end of 2018, Commerzbank will serve as the main sponsor of the women’s national team. The company will also continue to sponsor the German men’s team and all junior national sides as a premium partner of the DFB.

Commerzbank first teamed up with the DFB in 2008 and has been a partner of the DFB Junior Coach initiative since 2013. The programme trains German coaches and combines youth football with other professional challenges not associated with the sport.

Commerzbank chief executive Martin Zielke said: “The DFB premium partnership is one of the most attractive sponsorships in German football and has a great emotional and integrative power. The partnership is an important element… to further strengthen our brand.”
