Clipper Race secures first African partner

The Clipper Round the World Yacht Race has announced that Invest Africa will sponsor an entry in the 2013-14 edition of the sailing event in a deal that marks its first African commercial partnership.

Invest Africa is a networking organisation that seeks to build high quality business relationships within growing African networks. The aim of the business is to create a community of investors to aid African development.

Following establishment in Europe, Invest Africa is hoping to use its visibility in the Clipper Race to promote its agenda worldwide, targeting the US market in particular.

Rob Hersov, chairman and founding partner of Invest Africa, said: “We believe the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race provides a unique global stage where we can promote the opportunities for investment in the planet’s most exciting continent.”

In other news, event organiser Clipper Ventures has announced supplier deals with Cummins Onan and KH Charts for the 2013-14 Race.

Cummins Onan has been chosen as the official technical supplier and will provide the marine generators for the fleet of yachts competing in the event.

KH Charts will supply all the navigational data for the fleet, helping to keep the crews safe during the 40,000-mile, 11-month challenge. This will comprise of paper and digital navigation charts and nautical information.

The 2013-14 Clipper Race starts on September 1 from St Katharine Dock, London. The Clipper Race fleet is made up of 12 brand new identical ocean racers with each one sponsored by a different destination or brand.
