European clubs who participated in the 2013-14 edition of the Uefa Champions League, Europe’s premier continental football competition, generated an estimated cumulative annual total of around €640m ($878m) from shirt sponsorships and kit supplier deals, Sports Sponsorship Insider can reveal.
Research found that the 32 clubs from 18 countries who had participated in the competition from the group stage onwards pulled in an estimated cumulative annual total of €340m from shirt sponsorships and an estimated cumulative annual total of €300m from kit supplier deals.
Brands from 14 industry sectors provided shirt sponsorships with airlines, energy providers and financial services companies leading the way.
Four sporting goods companies divided up the kit supplier rights with giants Nike and adidas combining to take 28 of the 32 spots.
