Bitcoin partners with Georgia Tech teams

Online payment system Bitcoin has expanded its involvement in American college sport through a sponsorship agreement with the Georgia Institute of Technology’s Athletic Association.

Under the deal, the terms of which were not disclosed, Bitcoin payment processor BitPay will back Georgia Tech’s American football and basketball teams.

Bitcoin and BitPay logos will be displayed on the Bobby Dodd Stadium and the McCamish Pavilion during the course of the 2014-15 school year.

BitPay aims to raise Bitcoin awareness among its target demographic of college-aged males through the tie-up, which was brokered by the IMG College agency.

In June, BitPay secured a three-year title sponsorship deal with ESPN Events for college American football’s St Petersburg Bowl post-season game.
