American superstar gymnast Simone Biles has ended her long-standing relationship with Nike to strike a new apparel partnership with Gap's Athleta brand.
Biles, who will be one of the most high-profile Team USA athletes at this summer's Tokyo 2020 Olympics, had been a Nike athlete since 2015. The length and terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Biles told the Wall Street Journal that she "just thought it was time for a change" and that the female-led Athleta is "truly for women by women."
The San Francisco, California-based Athleta, which was founded in 1998, also signed USA women's track and field star Allyson Felix to a partnership in 2019. Felix had accused Nike for failing to pregnant athletes at the time. You need to have a subscription to access this content
